Short answer31 December 2026 is a Thursday, 1 January 2027 a Friday and a public holiday in Morocco. Marrakech has two BoxSpot points: near the Medersa Ben Youssef, open on Thursday 31 from 11am to 11pm and on Friday 1 from 11am to 10pm (closed on Sundays); near Bab Aghmat, open from 9am to 5pm every day. On a public holiday a partner's hours may change: check the booking page. Price: 9 MAD per hour per bag, 4-hour minimum (36 MAD), never more than 59 MAD for the day.
The calendar: Thursday 31 December, Friday 1 January
New Year's Eve falls on a Thursday night, and 1 January is a Friday and a public holiday in Morocco. That day, many shops open later or close earlier than usual. The weekend follows straight on: if you leave on Sunday 3 January, note that the point near the Medersa Ben Youssef is closed on Sundays. Only the Bab Aghmat point is open then.
A full city for New Year's Eve
Marrakech is the most sought-after destination in the country at the end of the year. Riads and hotels are often fully booked around the 31st, and New Year's Eve dinners need booking in advance, at higher prices than the rest of the year.
We do not publish a programme of parties, concerts or shows: it changes every year and depends on hotels, restaurants and organisers. Check the venues' official announcements, the tourist office or your accommodation, and book directly with them. In the evening, Jemaa el-Fna square and the nearby lanes are very crowded: keep your phone and wallet in a closed pocket.
Checking out on 1 January
In most riads, you have to leave the room around noon. After a short night, that is early. Ask for a late check-out when you book: on busy days, the room is often let again the same day. Many riads keep suitcases at reception, but then you have to come back to the riad before leaving, often at the end of a lane taxis cannot enter.
If you would rather leave your bags elsewhere, pick the point that fits your day:
Medersa Ben Youssef: a shop at 34 Kaat Benahid, in the northern medina, about 3 minutes' walk from the Medersa Ben Youssef and 10 minutes from Jemaa el-Fna. On Friday 1 January it opens at 11am and closes at 10pm: the right choice for an evening flight.Bab Aghmat: a hair salon near the Bab Aghmat gate, on the Sidi Youssef Ben Ali side, southeast of the medina, about 1.5 km as the crow flies from Jemaa el-Fna. Open from 9am but closed at 5pm. Follow the directions in your booking.

These are each partner's usual hours. As 1 January is a public holiday, they may vary: check the page of the Medersa Ben Youssef point or the Bab Aghmat point before you go.
Late flights and taxis
Petits taxis cannot enter the medina's lanes: you have to walk to a gate or a street open to cars. So collect your bags at the last moment and take a taxi as close to the point as possible.
On the evening of the 31st and on 1 January, demand for taxis is high. Leave plenty of margin to reach Marrakech-Menara airport, about 6 km as the crow flies from Bab Aghmat, or ask your riad to book a transfer. Ask for the meter or agree on the fare before getting in, and be at the airport within the time your airline recommends.
For a very late flight, no point stays open until you leave: collect your bags before closing time (10pm at Ben Youssef on the Friday) and plan to end the evening with them, for example at a restaurant or directly at the airport.
