The 1-54 fair, devoted to contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora, returns to Marrakech from 18 to 21 March 2027 at La Mamounia hotel. Founded in London and also held in New York, it brings together galleries, artists, collectors and the simply curious. For the general public, two days matter: Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 March. Here is the announced schedule, what is still to be confirmed, and where to leave your suitcase if you arrive or leave on the day of your visit.
Short answer
1-54 Marrakech takes place at La Mamounia, Avenue Bab Jdid. The public days are Saturday 20 March (11am-7pm) and Sunday 21 March 2027 (11am-6pm), according to the official site. For your bags: on Saturday both BoxSpot points in Marrakech are open; on Sunday only the Bab Aghmat point is open, from 9am to 5pm, because the point near the Medersa Ben Youssef is closed on Sundays. Price: 9 MAD per hour per bag, 4-hour minimum (36 MAD), never more than 59 MAD for the first bag for the day.
The announced dates and opening hours
According to the official site 1-54.com, checked at the end of October 2026:
- Thursday 18 and Friday 19 March 2027, 11am-7pm: VIP and press preview.
- Saturday 20 March, 11am-7pm: open to the public.
- Sunday 21 March, 11am-6pm: open to the public, closing an hour earlier.
Tickets are sold through a booking link on the fair's site; no prices were shown at the end of October 2026. Past editions came with talks and exhibitions at partner venues around the city, but no off-site programme has been announced for 2027 yet. Check 1-54.com before you book.
La Mamounia, a short walk from the Koutoubia
La Mamounia is on Avenue Bab Jdid, along the city walls in the southwest of the medina. The Koutoubia and Jemaa el-Fna square are within walking distance. An art fair means stands, artworks and crowds: a wheeled suitcase has no place there, and a large backpack quickly gets in the way. Better to arrive light.
Mid-March 2027: after the expected end of Ramadan
In 2027, the end of Ramadan is expected around 9 or 10 March. In Morocco the date of Eid al-Fitr is only set after the crescent moon has been sighted, so it can shift by a day. If that timing holds, the fair falls about ten days after Eid, when restaurants and shops are back to their usual hours.
Saturday 20 March: both points are open
Arriving on Saturday morning by train or coach, with a riad that only lets you in mid-afternoon? On Saturday you have a choice:
- Bazar Posterre, near the Medersa Ben Youssef (north medina, about 3 minutes on foot from the Medersa and 10 minutes from Jemaa el-Fna): 11am to 11pm.
- Bab Aghmat hair salon (just outside the Bab Aghmat gate, southeast medina, about 1.5 km in a straight line from Jemaa el-Fna): 9am to 5pm.
For a day at the fair followed by dinner in town, the point near the Medersa Ben Youssef is the most convenient: it opens at 11am, at the same time as the fair, and only closes at 11pm. It sits on the other side of Jemaa el-Fna from La Mamounia, about 1.5 km in a straight line. Our guide to the Medersa Ben Youssef point shows the way.
Sunday 21 March: Bab Aghmat, before 5pm
On Sunday the point near the Medersa Ben Youssef is closed. The Bab Aghmat point, a hair salon just outside the gate of the same name in the southeast of the medina, is open from 9am to 5pm. That is the one you need if you check out that day.
Mind the gap: the fair closes at 6pm, the Bab Aghmat point at 5pm. If you are leaving on Sunday, visit the fair first and go back for your suitcase before 5pm. La Mamounia and Bab Aghmat are about 2 km apart in a straight line: take a petit taxi.
- Around 10am: check out, then a petit taxi to Bab Aghmat. You show your booking, the partner scans your QR code and photographs your bags, with the drop-off time.
- 11am: the fair opens at La Mamounia.
- Early afternoon: lunch, the Koutoubia, Jemaa el-Fna, hands free.
- Before 5pm: back to Bab Aghmat. You show the same QR code: bags are only handed back against that code. Then on to the station, the coach station or the airport.
