Key Takeaways
- Kamra bus station has not handled coaches since 1 December 2022; the building is being converted into a media library.
- Private companies use the new bus station at the southern entrance of Rabat; CTM has its own station on the Avenue Hassan II side (check your ticket).
- From CTM, tram line 2 runs from Yacoub El Mansour to Place de Russie, about a hundred metres from the Saberbest point; from the new bus station, take a petit taxi.
- Saberbest, 13 bis Avenue Madagascar, is open every day from 9am to 10pm: 9 MAD per hour per bag, 36 MAD minimum, 59 MAD maximum for the day.
Plenty of travellers still type "Kamra bus station" before catching a coach to Rabat. The catch: Kamra has not handled coaches since the end of 2022. If you are arriving in Rabat by coach, or leaving, here is where coaches stop today, how to get to the centre (the tram helps, but not everywhere) and where to leave your bags while you explore.
Short answer
The old Kamra bus station has been closed to coaches since 1 December 2022. Private coach companies now use the new bus station at the southern entrance of Rabat, near the Prince Moulay Abdellah sports complex. CTM has its own station on the Avenue Hassan II side, not far from the old Kamra: check the address on your ticket. No BoxSpot point is inside a station: the Rabat point is the Saberbest agency, 13 bis Avenue Madagascar, about 100 metres from the Place de Russie tram stop. Open every day from 9am to 10pm. Price: 9 MAD per hour per bag, 4-hour minimum (36 MAD), never more than 59 MAD for the day.
Kamra: what changed
For decades the Kamra bus station, with its circular building, was where coaches arrived in Rabat. Since 1 December 2022 all transport activity there has stopped: a new bus station, inaugurated at the end of November 2022, took over at the southern entrance of the city. The old building is being converted into a media library.
In practice: if an old guidebook, blog or app tells you "Kamra", do not rely on it. Look at the exact place printed on your ticket.
Where coaches arrive today
- The new Rabat bus station. It sits at the southern entrance of the city, with direct access from the Rabat-Casablanca motorway, near the Prince Moulay Abdellah sports complex. Private coach companies arrive and leave here. It is about 6 km as the crow flies from the BoxSpot point.
- The CTM station. CTM has its own station on the Avenue Hassan II side, in the Yacoub El Mansour area, not far from the old Kamra. It is about 3.9 km as the crow flies to the BoxSpot point. We found no recent official notice about this address: check it on your ticket or with CTM.
- Supratours. Supratours coaches, run by a subsidiary of the ONCF rail company, have their own boarding points: check them on supratours.ma.
From the CTM station: the tram to Place de Russie
This is the easiest route. According to the network map, the Yacoub El Mansour terminus of tram line 2 is about 500 metres as the crow flies from the CTM station. Line 2 then calls at Oued Dahab, Essalam, Al Houria, Hôpital Moulay Youssef, Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah and then Place de Russie. The Saberbest point is about a hundred metres from that stop.
- Walk to the Yacoub El Mansour stop (line 2 terminus).
- Buy your ticket from the machine at the stop and board towards the centre.
- Get off at Place de Russie, then follow the directions in your booking to 13 bis Avenue Madagascar.
With two big suitcases, a blue petit taxi works too: ask for the meter and say "Avenue Madagascar, Place de Russie". If you want to use the tram all day, see our itinerary Rabat and Salé in a day by tram.
From the new bus station: the petit taxi
We found no tram stop at the new bus station: the nearest, Yacoub El Mansour, is about 2.7 km as the crow flies. With luggage, the simplest option is a blue petit taxi from outside the station, on the meter, to Place de Russie. City buses also serve the area, but check the line on the spot before boarding with a suitcase.
Finding the point when you arrive
Saberbest is a travel agency, not a luggage shop. Look for the large white "Saber Best Travel Agency" sign at 13 bis Avenue Madagascar (shop no. 1), in the Océan district, about 4 minutes on foot from Place de Russie. Go in and show your booking at the counter: the agent scans your QR code and photographs your bags with the drop-off time. Bags are handed back only against that same QR code.
The point is open every day from 9am to 10pm. The hours shown on the point's page when you book are the reference: check them before you set off, especially if you arrive early in the morning or leave late at night.
Three situations, three calculations
Morning arrival with CTM, Al Boraq in the evening
Your CTM coach arrives around 10am and your train leaves Rabat-Agdal at 6pm. Tram to Place de Russie, drop-off around 10:45am, a visit to the medina and the Oudayas, pick-up around 5:15pm, then 8 to 10 minutes by petit taxi to Agdal. Six and a half hours, so 7 hours booked: beyond 7 hours an hourly booking is capped at the day price, so 59 MAD for one bag.
Noon check-out, evening coach from the bus station
You leave your hotel at noon and your coach leaves the new bus station at 7:30pm. Drop-off around 12:30pm, pick-up around 6:15pm to leave time for the taxi. Book 6 hours: 54 MAD for one bag.
Two of you, a full day
Two bags, dropped in the morning and collected in the evening: 59 MAD for the first, 49 MAD for the second, 108 MAD in total. If you leave a single bag for two days, for a night away: 59 + 39 = 98 MAD.
