Tangier medina and Kasbah with a suitcase: drop it 3 minutes from the Grand Socco first

A walkable plan for Tangier's medina, Kasbah and Café Hafa without your suitcase: drop it at RS Valises, 3 minutes from the Grand Socco, open daily 11am to 11pm.
Key Takeaways
RS Valises on Rue Amérique du Sud is about 230 m from the Grand Socco (3 minutes) and 600 m from the Tanger Ville port entrance.
Open every day from 11am to 11pm: handy for an evening ferry or bus, but not before 11am in the morning.
Price per bag: 9 MAD per hour (4-hour minimum, 36 MAD), capped at 59 MAD for the day, 39 MAD for each extra day.
Walking loop: Grand Socco, Petit Socco, Kasbah, then Café Hafa in Marshan, in half a day.
You checked out at noon, or you have just walked off the ferry, and Tangier is waiting at the top of the street: the Grand Socco, the medina, the Kasbah looking out over the Strait. The problem is the suitcase. The medina's lanes climb, twist and narrow into stairs, and a rolling case quickly becomes dead weight. The easiest fix is to leave it just before you enter the old town and pick it up again in the evening.
Short answerLeave your bags at RS Valises on Rue Amérique du Sud, next to the Gran Teatro Cervantes: about 230 m from the Grand Socco (a 3-minute walk) and about 600 m from the Tanger Ville port entrance. Open every day from 11am to 11pm. It costs 9 MAD per hour (4-hour minimum) or 59 MAD for the day, per bag, booked and paid online.
Why drop your suitcase before the medina
Tangier's medina is not flat. From the Grand Socco you walk through the Bab Fahs gate, down to the Petit Socco, then back up narrow lanes, some of them stepped, to the Kasbah. With a suitcase, every step is a lift, and in the tightest passages you block everyone behind you. Without bags, the same loop is simply a lovely walk.
RS Valises has one rare advantage: it sits right on the way. Whether you come from the port, a hotel in the centre or a taxi, you pass it before reaching the Grand Socco. Drop your bags, carry on hands-free, and collect everything on your way back.
How to find RS Valises
The shop is on Rue Amérique du Sud, next to the Gran Teatro Cervantes, the city's old Spanish theatre, and the Fondouk Chejra, the weavers' souk. It is a children's goods and luggage shop: look for the strollers at the entrance and the wall of suitcases inside.
Lost? Ask for "Fondouk Chejra". Everyone in the neighbourhood knows the weavers' souk, and the shop is right next to it. The map is also on the locker page.
The walking route, from the locker to Café Hafa
Here is a simple loop you can do in half a day. Walking times are approximate and do not include stops.
RS Valises → Grand Socco: about 230 m, so 3 minutes. The big round square (Place du 9 Avril 1947) is the gateway to the medina.
Grand Socco → Petit Socco: go through the Bab Fahs gate and down Rue des Siaghine to the small café-lined square, about 5 minutes.
Petit Socco → Kasbah: climb north through the lanes to the Kasbah, allow 10 to 15 minutes, it is uphill. From the locker, the Kasbah is about 700 m as the crow flies.
The Kasbah: the square, the ramparts and the Kasbah Museum, set in the former Dar el Makhzen palace. Its opening hours and ticket price can change, so check them on site before planning your day around it.
Kasbah → Café Hafa (Marshan): about 1 km west through the Marshan district, 15 to 20 minutes. The terraced café facing the Strait is the perfect place to finish with a mint tea.
To get back, allow roughly 20 to 25 minutes on foot from Café Hafa to the locker, or take a petit taxi. If you want to book now, here is the locker page: RS Valises luggage storage, next to the Gran Teatro Cervantes.

Morning ferry arrival: the shop opens at 11am
To be straight with you: RS Valises opens at 11am. If your ferry lands at the Tanger Ville port at 9am, you cannot drop your bag there straight away. Two options:
Take it slow: have breakfast in a café near the port or the Grand Socco, then drop your bag at 11am. The shop is about 600 m from the port entrance, roughly an 8-minute walk.
The Cash Plus Riad Ahlan point opens at 9am Monday to Saturday (closed Sunday, with a 2pm to 3pm break on Friday). But it is at the Al Izdihar roundabout, about 5 km away, so you need a taxi. It only makes sense if you are staying on that side of town.
The evening advantage: pick up until 11pm
The shop stays open until 11pm every day. You can watch the sunset at Café Hafa, have dinner in town and only collect your suitcase late in the evening. For a night ferry or an overnight bus, that is what makes the difference: no need to head back in the late afternoon. Just check your departure time and leave a margin to reach the port (about 8 minutes on foot) or Tanger-Ville train station (about 2.4 km, by taxi).
Example: check out at 12pm, drop at 12:15pm, pick up at 10pm. About 10 hours of storage, 59 MAD for one bag, the daily cap.
How it works, and how your bags are looked after
Book online on the locker page, choose your drop-off time and duration, pay by card.
You receive a booking QR code.
At drop-off, the shop staff scan your QR code, take your bags and a time-stamped photo of them.
When you come back, show the same QR code: bags are only handed back against that code.
