Key Takeaways
- Six self-service bag-drop kiosks in Terminal 2 at Rabat-Salé, for Ryanair passengers (announced 28 October 2026).
- Ryanair plans the same system in Tangier, Fès, Marrakech and Agadir by summer 2027.
- The ALSA shuttle links the airport with Rabat-Agdal station in 45 to 50 minutes, for 25 MAD one way.
- Before your flight, BoxSpot's Rabat storage (Saberbest, Place de Russie) is open 9am to 10pm, from 9 MAD per hour per bag.
Ryanair passengers flying from Rabat-Salé with a checked bag can now drop it themselves at a kiosk, without queuing at the check-in desk. The airline presented the kiosks on Wednesday 28 October 2026. Here is what was announced, what we know about how it works, how to get from the airport to central Rabat, and where to leave your bags on departure day.
Short answer
According to Infomédiaire, six self-service bag-drop kiosks have been installed in Terminal 2 at Rabat-Salé for Ryanair passengers. Ryanair plans to equip its four other Moroccan bases (Tangier, Fès, Marrakech and Agadir) by summer 2027. The idea: you check in, then drop your bag yourself by following a guided route. For your bags in town before the flight, BoxSpot's Rabat point is at Saberbest, near Place de Russie, open 9am to 10pm.
What was announced
Le360 reported on 28 October 2026 that Ryanair was launching self-service bag-drop kiosks at Rabat-Salé airport. A few days earlier, on 23 October, Infomédiaire had described the "Self Bag Drop" system announced by Airports of Morocco:
- Six self-service kiosks, installed in Terminal 2.
- They are for Ryanair passengers travelling with a checked bag.
- Ryanair plans the same equipment at its four other bases in Morocco, Tangier, Fès, Marrakech and Agadir, by summer 2027 (Le360).
It is not quite a first for the country: according to Infomédiaire, the system was first put into service with Royal Air Maroc at Casablanca's Mohammed V airport, before reaching Rabat-Salé.
How it works for passengers
Both articles describe the principle without going into every screen:
- You check in first, as usual.
- At the airport, instead of queuing at the desk, you go to a kiosk and drop your checked bag yourself, following a guided, automated route.
- You then go through security.
What does not change: your bag is still subject to the terms of your ticket (weight, size, whether a bag is paid for). Before you leave, check what your booking includes on Ryanair's website or app, and arrive with your suitcase closed and ready to drop.
What the kiosk does not solve: the day before your flight
The kiosk saves time at the airport. But if your flight leaves late afternoon or in the evening, the question comes earlier: what do you do with your suitcase between hotel check-out and leaving for the airport? Dragging a bag through the medina or across the Hassan Tower esplanade is no fun. That is where storage in town helps. Our guide to luggage storage and Rabat-Salé airport covers the other options.
From the airport to central Rabat
Rabat-Salé airport is on the Salé side, outside the centre. Two simple options:
- The ALSA shuttle links the airport with Rabat-Agdal station. According to ALSA's website, the ride takes about 45 to 50 minutes and costs 25 MAD one way, or 40 MAD for a return valid 15 days. Tickets are sold on board, by card, or at the ALSA kiosk in the airport. Departures run from morning until around midnight: check the day's times on alsa.ma.
- Taxi: taxis wait outside the terminal. Agree on the fare before you set off.
From Rabat-Agdal station, the BoxSpot point is 8 to 10 minutes away by blue petit taxi, on the meter.
Leaving your bags in Rabat: Saberbest, Place de Russie
BoxSpot's Rabat point is the Saberbest Place de Russie travel agency, 13 bis avenue Madagascar, in the Océan district. It is about 1.3 km from Rabat-Ville station and 8 to 10 minutes by petit taxi from Rabat-Agdal. Open every day from 9am to 10pm; the hours shown on the booking page are the reference.
How it works: you show your booking, the agent scans your QR code and photographs your bags with the drop-off time. To collect them, you show the same QR code: bags are only returned against that code. To make the most of the day, see our itinerary to visit Rabat in one day without luggage.
Example: check-out at 11am, Ryanair flight at 8pm
You leave your hotel at 11am and your flight leaves Rabat-Salé at 8pm. You drop your suitcase at Saberbest at around 11:30am, visit the medina and the Oudayas, and collect it at around 5pm. Book 6 hours: 54 MAD for one bag. Then it is a taxi to the airport, or a petit taxi to Rabat-Agdal and the shuttle, with a comfortable margin before the flight. At the airport, the kiosk takes care of the checked bag.
| Duration | Price for 1 bag |
|---|---|
| 4 hours (minimum) | 36 MAD |
| 5 hours | 45 MAD |
| 6 hours | 54 MAD |
| 7 hours or more (full day) | 59 MAD |
| 2 days | 98 MAD |
| Extra bag, daily | 49 MAD on day one, then 39 MAD a day |
Payment is online, in dirhams, by card. Beyond 7 hours, an hourly booking never exceeds 59 MAD for the first bag for the day.
