Landing in Marrakech on a Sunday morning, or staying in a riad in the southeast of the medina, around Bab Aghmat, the Mellah or the Bahia Palace? BoxSpot has two drop-off points in Marrakech. The second one, a hair salon near Bab Aghmat, has one clear advantage: it is open every day from 9am to 5pm, Sundays included. Here is who it suits, how to get there by petit taxi, the 5pm limit to keep in mind, and the prices.
Short answerBoxSpot's Bab Aghmat point is a hair salon about a 3-minute walk from the Bab Aghmat gate, just outside the city walls on the Sidi Youssef Ben Ali side, southeast of the medina. It is open every day from 9am to 5pm, Sundays included. Price: 9 MAD per hour per bag (4-hour minimum, so 36 MAD), never more than 59 MAD for the day. If you need your bags after 5pm, Bazar Posterre near the Medersa Ben Youssef closes at 11pm (10pm on Fridays), but it is closed on Sundays.
Where exactly the point is
Bab Aghmat is the main southeastern gate in Marrakech's ramparts. The BoxSpot point sits just outside it, roughly 200 metres east of the gate on the Sidi Youssef Ben Ali side, near the Bab Ghmat bus stop. The point's listing gives about 3 minutes on foot from the gate. It is a neighbourhood hair salon, not a tourist shop, so rely on the exact location and route shown on the Bab Aghmat point page and in your booking rather than looking for a sign.
A few landmarks, as the crow flies from the point. On foot, the lanes make the walk a little longer.
Bahia Palace: about 1 km.The Mellah, the old Jewish quarter: about 1.1 km.El Badi Palace: about 1.4 km.Jemaa el-Fna square: about 1.5 km.Marrakech ONCF train station: about 4.3 km, a petit taxi ride.
Who this point suits (and who it does not)
You arrive or leave on a Sunday. It is the only BoxSpot point in Marrakech open that day: Bazar Posterre, in the northern medina, is closed on Sundays. You arrive early. It opens at 9am, against 11am at Bazar Posterre. Handy after a morning flight or an overnight bus, once you have had breakfast.Your riad is in the southeast of the medina, near Bab Aghmat. To be honest, as the crow flies the Bahia and the Mellah are roughly the same distance from both BoxSpot points, about 1 km. Bab Aghmat's real advantage is access: it sits outside the walls, in an area cars can reach, while Bazar Posterre is in lanes where taxis cannot go.It does not suit you if you need your bags after 5pm. For an evening flight, train or bus, see below.
Getting there by petit taxi
Marrakech's petits taxis are beige and take up to three passengers. The ride is easy, because every driver knows Bab Aghmat.
Ask for "Bab Aghmat", often pronounced "Bab Ghmat".Show the driver the point's location on your booking map so you are dropped as close as possible.Ask for the meter to be switched on, or agree on the fare before you get in.Allow some slack at rush hour: traffic around the walls can be heavy.
From the ONCF train station it is about 4 km as the crow flies. From Jemaa el-Fna it is about 1.5 km: walkable with a backpack, but long with a suitcase through the lanes, so a taxi is simpler.
The 5pm limit: plan for it when you book
The point closes at 5pm every day, so your bags must be collected before then: there is no evening pickup. That makes it ideal for an arrival (drop in the morning, collect when your room is ready) or a late-afternoon departure. If your flight, train or bus leaves in the evening, choose Bazar Posterre instead, open until 11pm Monday to Thursday and on Saturday, and until 10pm on Friday. It is closed on Sundays, so on a Sunday plan to collect your bags at Bab Aghmat before 5pm.
The Ben Youssef point for evenings
BoxSpot's other Marrakech point, Bazar Posterre at 34 Kaat Benahid, is in the northern medina, about a 3-minute walk from the Medersa Ben Youssef and around ten minutes from Jemaa el-Fna. It opens at 11am and closes late, except on Sundays. We cover it in detail in our guide to luggage storage near the Medersa Ben Youssef. The two points are about 1.4 km apart as the crow flies. You can compare them on the Marrakech luggage storage page.
Three situations, three calculations
Arriving on a Sunday morning
You arrive at 9.30am on a Sunday and your riad near Bab Aghmat has your room ready at 2pm. Drop at 10am, collect at 2pm: 4 hours, so 36 MAD for one bag, the minimum for an hourly booking. Bazar Posterre is closed that day, so Bab Aghmat is the only BoxSpot option in Marrakech.
Check-out at 11am, train at 6.30pm
You leave the riad at 11am and your train departs at 6.30pm. Drop the suitcase around 11.15am, collect it around 4.45pm, then take a petit taxi to the station, about 4 km away. Just over 5 hours of storage: book 6 hours, so 54 MAD for one bag, with a comfortable margin before the train.
A day trip, two suitcases
You go on a day trip from 9am to 4.30pm and leave two suitcases. By the day, the first costs 59 MAD and the second 49 MAD, so 108 MAD. Plan to be back before 5pm: a delay on the road does not push back closing time.
