Tanjazz, Tangier's jazz festival, holds its 23rd edition from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 September 2026. The programme brings together jazz, flamenco, soul, funk, swing, Cuban music and acoustic guitars, with headliners Dee Dee Bridgewater, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Diego El Cigala and Buena Vista All Stars.
Many festival-goers will arrive on Friday, from Rabat, from Casablanca or from Spain by ferry, with a bag for the weekend. Here is how to get organised.
Short answer
Ticketed evenings on 18 and 19 September at the Palace of Italian Institutions, in the Marshan; free Tanjazz in Town concerts during all three days. If you arrive before check-in, drop your bag near the Grand Socco (open from 11:00 to 23:00), enjoy the afternoon, and collect it before heading up to the concert.
The line-up for the two big evenings
Friday 18 September
Garden Stage: Dee Dee Bridgewater, Rodrigo y Gabriela.
Patio Stage: The Groovy Four, Gisele Jackson & The Brooklyn Souls, The Haggis Horns.
Saturday 19 September
Garden Stage: Diego El Cigala, celebrating 20 years of "Lágrimas Negras", followed by Buena Vista All Stars.
Patio Stage: The Swing Shouters, Ladyva, Les Frères Smith.
The Garden Stage hosts the headliners, the Patio Stage the more danceable sets and the jam sessions. Times and tickets: check the festival's official website before you go.
Tanjazz in Town: the free festival
Alongside the main programme, Tanjazz in Town offers free concerts, jam sessions, swing dance classes and musical walks in squares and iconic venues across Tangier during all three days. Sunday 20 September is devoted entirely to it: the ideal day if you are in town without a ticket for the evening shows.
The Marshan: where the concerts are
The Palace of Italian Institutions, which locals also call the Moulay Hafid Palace, is in the Marshan district, on the heights west of the Kasbah, the neighbourhood of Café Hafa. You can walk there from the medina, uphill, or take a petit taxi. On the night of a big concert, the surrounding streets get very busy: allow extra time.
Arriving on Friday with your bag
The classic scenario: you arrive on the Al Boraq at Tanger-Ville station or by ferry at the Tanger Ville port in late morning, your hotel or riad only hands over the room in mid-afternoon, and the evening starts in the Marshan. The afternoon goes better without the bag: medina, Kasbah, terraces overlooking the Strait.
A BoxSpot partner shop is located on rue Amérique du Sud, next to the Fondouk Chejra and about 200 metres from the Grand Socco, so between the station, the port and the medina.
Opening hours: 11:00 to 23:00, every day, weekends included.
Price: 9 MAD per hour per bag, capped at 59 MAD per day.
Drop-off: online booking, QR code scanned by the shopkeeper, time-stamped photo of your luggage.
The right sequence: drop-off on arrival, afternoon in town, pick up the bag at the end of the day, stop at the hotel, then the concert. The evening shows finish late: don't count on going back to the drop-off point after the concert, it closes at 23:00. On Sunday, if your train or boat leaves in the evening, drop your things off again in the morning and enjoy Tanjazz in Town hands-free.
Tanjazz, without the bag
Drop-off point 200 m from the Grand Socco, open from 11:00 to 23:00. Exact address and price shown before payment.
