Key Takeaways
- Hours differ from one point to another: in Marrakech, Bab Aghmat closes at 5pm; in Tangier, Anabelle Para opens at 3pm; in Fez, the point opens at noon.
- An hourly booking counts at least 4 hours (36 MAD) and never exceeds 59 MAD for the day for the first bag.
- Bags are only returned against the booking's QR code: take a screenshot of it.
- Every bag counts (49 MAD on day one for an extra bag), and the taxi ride to the station or airport belongs in your timing.
Leaving your bags for a few hours so you can enjoy one last day in Morocco is easy. The bad surprises almost always come from the same small details: a drop-off point already closed when you come back, a two-hour booking charged as four, a QR code you can't find just as you want your suitcase back. Here are the eight easiest mistakes to make, and how to avoid them, with real examples city by city.
Short answer
Before you book, compare the point's closing time with the time you'll come back, and know that an hourly booking counts at least 4 hours (36 MAD). No BoxSpot point is inside a station, so plan the walk or taxi. Keep a screenshot of your QR code, book every bag you bring, keep your passport and valuables on you, and leave margin for the taxi back. Price: 9 MAD per hour per bag, never more than 59 MAD for the day for the first bag.
Before you book: three timing mistakes
1. Not checking the closing time before an evening departure
This is the most frustrating one, because you only find out when you come back. BoxSpot points are neighbourhood businesses: cafés, shops, salons, agencies. Each keeps its own hours, and they vary a lot between cities. A few real examples:
- In Marrakech, the hair salon near Bab Aghmat is open every day from 9am to 5pm. If your bus or flight leaves at 9pm, you need to be back before 5pm, not after dinner.
- Also in Marrakech, Bazar Posterre near the Medersa Ben Youssef opens from 11am to 11pm (10pm on Fridays), but it is closed on Sundays.
- In Tangier, Anabelle Para near the Plaza de Toros only opens at 3pm: perfect for an afternoon drop-off, impossible at 10am.
- Also in Tangier, the Cash Plus Riad Ahlan agency is closed on Sundays and takes a break on Fridays from 2pm to 3pm.
- In Fez, Barber Shop Alami in the ville nouvelle opens at noon (12pm to 10pm). If your train arrives at 9am, you will have to wait.
The habit to build: check the hours for the exact day of your drop-off and your pick-up on the point's page, before paying. If either one doesn't fit, pick another point in the same city.
2. Booking under 4 hours without knowing the minimum
An hourly booking costs 9 MAD per hour per bag, with a 4-hour minimum, so 36 MAD. If you only leave your bag for two hours over lunch, you still pay 36 MAD. It isn't a trick, it's the floor price: better to know it, and use it to give yourself some slack on the way back. At the other end, an hourly booking never goes above 59 MAD for the first bag for the day.
3. Forgetting Friday midday
On Friday around midday, many Moroccan shops close for one to two hours for prayer, and the city changes pace. A drop-off point may take a break (Cash Plus in Tangier does, from 2pm to 3pm), and your taxi may take longer than expected. If your drop-off or pick-up falls on a Friday, avoid scheduling it right at that time. For the rest of the week (banks, souks, public holidays), our guide to what is closed, and on which day, in Morocco has the details.
Finding the point: two on-the-ground mistakes
4. Assuming the storage is inside the station
BoxSpot points are not inside stations: they are partner businesses in town. In Casablanca, the Troplo Coffee in the La Villette area is about a 17-minute walk from Casa-Voyageurs, or a few minutes by petit taxi. In Rabat, the Saberbest agency is about 1.3 km from Rabat-Ville. In Tangier, Anabelle Para is about 1 km from Tanger-Ville station. And in the Marrakech medina, taxis can't enter the alleys, so the last stretch is on foot.
Open the directions in your booking before you set off and build that trip into your plans. Our comparison of luggage storage prices in Morocco also explains what stations do and don't offer.
5. Not counting every bag
The price is per bag. The backpack strapped to your suitcase, the shopping bag from the souk, the box of ceramics: each one counts. An extra bag costs 49 MAD on day one, then 39 MAD a day. Book the right number from the start: at drop-off the partner photographs the bags, and a booking that doesn't match what you bring slows everyone down.
Example: one suitcase and one backpack for the day is 59 + 49 = 108 MAD. Over two days: (59 + 39) + (49 + 39) = 186 MAD.
At drop-off: two mistakes you regret later
6. Losing your QR code
At drop-off, the partner scans your booking's QR code and takes a timestamped photo of your bags. When you come back, bags are only returned against that same QR code. A dead phone, an inbox that won't load without signal, a cracked screen, and there you are in front of your suitcase without being able to take it straight away. Screenshot the QR code as soon as you book, and keep some battery for the return.
7. Leaving your passport and valuables in the bag
This is a travel rule that applies anywhere: whatever you can't afford to lose stays on you. Passport, bank cards, cash, medication, laptop, charger, train or plane tickets. Luggage storage is there to free you from bulk, not from your documents. Also think about what you'll need during the day: a jacket for the evening, swimwear for the beach.
Departure day: the last-mile mistake
8. Forgetting the taxi time to the station or airport
Collecting your bags at 6pm for a 6:15pm train means betting on a free taxi, light traffic and no surprises on the platform. Work backwards: your departure time, minus the margin your airline or ONCF recommends, minus the taxi ride (longer at rush hour and on Friday midday), minus a few minutes at the point. The time you get is your pick-up time, and it has to fall before the point closes.
Example in Marrakech: evening flight, drop-off at the Bab Aghmat salon at 9:30am. The point closes at 5pm, so you collect your suitcase around 4:30pm before heading to the airport. Seven hours of storage, capped at the daily price: 59 MAD for one bag. If you'd rather stay hands-free until the evening, choose a point that closes later, such as Bazar Posterre (until 11pm, except Sundays).
