Tangier is the big winner of the first summer 2027 announcements. On 9 October 2026, Ryanair put its first 29 new routes of the season on sale, several of them to Ibn Battouta airport, and TUI Airways scheduled a London Gatwick to Tangier flight. Here is what has been announced, what still needs confirming, and how to handle arrival and departure when you travel with luggage.
Short answer
Ryanair links Alicante and Tangier from Sunday 28 March 2027, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. A Kraków-Tangier route is announced for Mondays and Thursdays, landing after midnight. TUI Airways plans London Gatwick-Tangier from 28 March 2027, three times a week according to filed schedules. In Tangier, BoxSpot points open during the day (RS Valises 11am to 11pm, Anabelle Para 3pm to 10pm), so they are mostly useful on departure day, between check-out and your flight. From 9 MAD per hour per bag.
What Ryanair announced for Tangier
On 9 October 2026, Ryanair opened sales for a first wave of 29 new routes for summer 2027 across Europe and North Africa. According to Bladi, which detailed the announcement, Tangier gets several of them:
- Alicante-Tangier: from Sunday 28 March 2027, three flights a week, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Vueling already flies this route, so Ryanair comes in as a competitor.
- Kraków-Tangier: two flights a week, on Mondays and Thursdays, landing in Tangier after midnight. No start date was given in the articles we read.
- Turin-Tangier: the route appears in the list published by Euronews and in Morocco World News, but Bladi and Linformation mention only three new routes to Morocco, without this one. Until you see it on sale on ryanair.com, treat it as unconfirmed.
For comparison, Ryanair's winter 2026 announcement had nothing new for Tangier. The routes opening this winter in Rabat, Marrakech and Agadir are covered in our article on new flights to Morocco this winter. Summer flight times were not published in the sources we checked: confirm them on ryanair.com when you book.
TUI Airways: London Gatwick-Tangier from 28 March 2027
From the UK, TUI Airways has scheduled a direct London Gatwick-Tangier route from Sunday 28 March 2027, the first day of the summer flying season. According to AeroRoutes, which tracks the schedules airlines file, and Bladi, which reported it on 18 October 2026, the route is planned three times a week with a Boeing 737 MAX 8. The other two days and the times have not been announced. As TUI is a tour operator's airline, some seats will be sold as part of holiday packages. Check availability on tui.co.uk before you count on this flight.
From Ibn Battouta airport to central Tangier
Ibn Battouta airport is about a dozen kilometres southwest of the centre. The easiest option is a grand taxi from the rank outside the terminal: allow 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic. Fares are higher at night; agree the price before you get in. A bus also links the airport and the city, but sources disagree on its times and fare, so ask on arrival.
The two most central BoxSpot points are RS Valises, on rue Amérique du Sud, about 3 minutes' walk from the Grand Socco and under 10 minutes from Tanger Ville port, and Anabelle Para, in the Hay Alia district, about 1 km from Tanger-Ville train station.
Arriving after midnight: the plain truth
BoxSpot points in Tangier are closed at night. RS Valises opens 11am to 11pm, Anabelle Para 3pm to 10pm, and Cash Plus Riad Ahlan, away from the centre, Monday to Saturday 9am to 9pm. If your flight lands after midnight, like the one announced from Kraków, you cannot drop bags on arrival: go straight to your accommodation with your luggage.
For a late arrival, tell your hotel or host your arrival time and keep some dirhams for the taxi. The luggage question really comes later: on the morning of check-out, or on the day you fly home.
Departure day: between check-out and your flight
This is where luggage storage helps. Flights to Alicante leave on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, and most hotels ask you to leave your room around noon. If your flight is in the late afternoon or evening, you have several hours in town and no wish to drag a suitcase through the medina's lanes.
- Book the point that suits you online, with your drop-off and pick-up times.
- At the point, show your booking: the partner scans your QR code and takes a timestamped photo of your bags.
- Explore the Kasbah, the medina or the seafront hands-free.
- Come back with the same QR code: bags are only handed back against that code. Then take a grand taxi to the airport, leaving plenty of time for check-in.
Mind the opening hours: RS Valises only opens at 11am and Anabelle Para at 3pm. If you leave your hotel at 10am, ask them to keep your case for an hour, or enjoy a slow breakfast before the drop-off. For a long connection rather than a stay, our guide to leaving Tangier airport during a layover has a quick plan.
